10 Tips For Cleaning Your Fridge

How often do you clean your fridge? If it’s not on a regular schedule, this is how to get started. Whether you’re looking for how to clean your refrigerator or how to deep-clean your fridge, we’ve got the tips for how to clean like a pro.

Tip 1: Remove everything. To get it clean, you have to take everything out. Once everything is out, you can remove shelves for cleaning.

Tip 2: Keep a trash bag next to you. You’ve started the cleaning process, don’t back out now. Throw out everything that has expired or has a weird smell. Many leftovers only last about a week, so be sure to keep that in mind.

Tip 3: Clean shelves and inside of the fridge with Dawn. I know this is a dish cleaning product, but dish soap is made to fight grease. It is one of the best cleaning products out there. A plus here is that many dish soaps have gone green, so there are other great grease-fighting, all-natural products on the market.

Tip 4: Put leftovers in a smaller container. Often leftovers are snacked on throughout the day and night. You can save a lot of space by simply switching your leftover containers.

Tip 5: Consider reorganizing your shelves. The best way to help keep the fridge clean is to make it more space effective.

Tip 6: Organize your products. While most of us put the milk back in the same spot every time, often the rest of the items simply get placed in wherever we can find space. Unfortunately, this means that items get pushed to the back and forgotten. Leftovers always placed in one corner of the fridge makes for a great place to look for a quick snack. An organized fridge makes for less waste.

Tip 7: Use baking soda. While some believe that it is only an old wives tale that backing soda helps to eliminate odors, the truth is it actually works! Sodium bicarbonate (aka baking soda) neutralizes pH levels. An open box in the fridge will help to fight odors for about three months. Date the box with either the day you put it in the fridge or the day you should remove it. Whichever one works for you, you are bound to keep your fridge fresh throughout the year.

Tip 8: Date your leftovers: Dating your leftover will keep you up to speed as to when to eat or toss them before they go bad or start to smell.

Tip 9: Wipe down containers. Containers will sometimes leak, keeping not just the outside of the container, but pour spouts and the lips of jars clean you can help to prevent this from happening.

Tip 10: Don’t overstuff your fridge. The more you put in there, the more likely you are to spill or lose something. The fridge will look cleaner and smell better the less cluttered it is.

Cleaning your fridge can be a pain.

But how often do you deep-clean it? You should probably do it more than once per year.
